Model Answer 1:
I succeeded to get the chance for admission at the University of Tokyo last year as an international student with a full bright scholarship, and it was a great achievement for me. In fact, I was the only member of my family in India who had the chance to move for a higher study in outside of the country. I applied to various universities and finally got the scope to be in this university. This is a nice cue card for me and I am in love with the questions. I will explain the event in brief and thank you for this nice topic.

The beginning of the event was in India. After crossing my higher secondary examination, I was seeking the chance for a higher study abroad. Accordingly, I started seeking options suitable for me. And I got my desired subject in a couple of universities. I applied for the course in the universities but only a few of them replied to my query and finally, I was selected by the University of Tokyo as their undergraduate student. I applied from India and got admitted from the same place.

Since I was an international student, the procedures were a bit relaxed for me. I did not have to appear on the admission exam. Rather, I applied with the required documents that the university authority wanted from me. I sent the scanned copy and they also made some investigations from their local agents.

Honestly, it was a great success for me. I actually never expected that I would be able to get admitted to such a large university. All the other family members were also happy and they celebrated the event as well. In fact, my father was the happiest person in the family and prayed for my overall success. I also felt glad when everyone congratulated me.

Model Answer 2:
Thank you for this nice topic. First, I would like to thank you for the opportunity to let me talk on this topic.

I never thought that I would be able to take part in a table tennis tournament at my university in Singapore. In fact, I did not have any prior plans to participate in the match but wanted to try my luck. Earlier, I had some experiences of playing table tennis at home, but this time it was the peer pressure that forced me to get involved in the competition. Finally, I was able to gain a prize in the match though it was hard for me.

The match was organized by the Singapore Management University here in Singapore. It was the annual indoor sports function of the university. There were several matches and a good number of students took part in those competitions. And the most important was the enjoyment that we had from the matches. The sports hour began in the morning and continued till the evening. The prize-giving ceremony took place after the evening and the entire day was filled with fun.

As I was not aware of the sporting event in the college, I did not have proper preparation on that day. There were some other types of indoor sports like chess. So, I think if I had the chance to participate in chess, I could have done better than the table tennis tournament. It was hard for me to beat the competitors and I was relieved as it was a team-play.

When my name was announced as a joint-winner at the table tennis, I really felt glad. And my parents were happy too. This was a lesson for me. If I continued my practice, I would have been the winner in the solo match instead of participating in the duo. However, I was truly happy for the achievement.

Idea generation for this Cue Card topic:

"Describe a particular event in which you were successful, eg. an exam, sports event etc."

Life is full of challenges. But not everyone becomes the winner. This cue card wants to know about the challenges or some particular events. A few potential hints here will give the candidates some ideas to develop their own thoughts to answer the questions.

1. Appearing on a written test for being selected for a job is highly difficult. Luckily I was able to cross such a barrier last month. I stood first in the written exam for the position of Junior Executive for a local shoe manufacturing company here in Singapore.

2. I never liked participating in sporting events for my introvert nature. But with the inspiration of my friends in college, I took part in chess completion. Surprisingly, I defeated my opponents in some matches. I still cannot believe that a shy boy like me did the outstanding task.

3. Singing was never the cup of tea for me. But I had to sing at a family event that took place last month. It was the marriage ceremony of my elder brother. Everyone was enjoying the marriage event, and I sang a nice wedding song there. I was successful to complete the song. Everyone praised me highly.

4. I did not have confidence in me that I would be able to make a smart score in cricket. But I became the man of the match at the inter-class cricket completion held in the playground of my college in Lahore. I enjoyed playing and performed very well than other players.

5. It was a science project of my college and I made a robot that can work using solar energy. Initially, a teacher dumped the idea to present at the annual science competition. Later, he inspired me to move with the idea and finally, it was a success.

6. A basketball competition in the USA is a common interest in colleges. But I could not participate there for my height. However, I started playing the game and appeared in local competition. Scoring two points for my team was a great success to me.
